A Maple Valley
Creative Arts Council

Project
Welcome!

We'll be back in 2021!

Our very first community mural project was completed in the Fall of 2019 thanks to the more than 130 volunteers and members of the community! THANK YOU! The lion’s share of the mural was painted on Saturday, September 14 and finishing touches were added on the October 26th Make A Difference Day. Together, and with support from our generous sponsors, this nearly 400 foot mural (two 200’ sides) is enjoyed by trail goers in Maple Valley.

Special thanks to: King County Parks & Recreation, 4Culture, King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn, Disneyland Theme Parks, The Rotary Club of Maple Valley, The City of Maple Valley, Sherwin-Williams, Voice In The Valley, From Page To Stage Theater Productions, STEAMboat Studio, Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra, Local Pros Painting, Maple Valley Signs, Jenna Riggs Collaborative, Make A Difference Day, and the many individuals who contributed to this project.

THE 2021 MURAL PROJECT design will be an open juried competition. All designs must utilize the theme of the History of Maple Valley and include paint-by-numbers areas for community participation. There are no age limits, nor is professional public art experience a requirement. Anyone can participate, including groups, teams, artists, youth, and more. Location and dimensions for the 2021 mural, along with the prospectus, will be available in early 2021.

In the meantime, follow MVCAC on Facebook and Instagram more information, prospectus deadlines, and work party dates for our second mural, which we hope to complete in the Fall of 2021.

For The Love Of Maple Valley

Maple Valley is a beautiful place to live, work and play. Paint By Tunnels will make it even more! We believe that our community is full of creative people. We believe that when we all come together to make something beautiful, our collective world becomes a little bit brighter; hearts soften, smiles proliferate, laughter is more frequently heard. Art is our vehicle of choice. We believe that an annual mural festival along our beloved Cedar to Green Rivers Trail will be a highlight to be shared by everyone. Join us!

Our Vision:

To build an annual community-based arts event where murals designed by artists and non-artists alike are painted in part by event goers in each of the five tunnels on the Cedar to Green Rivers Trail that runs through Maple Valley, Washington.

Imagine it...

Picture a day when members of the community and visitors walk the trail, meet and talk with artists, pick up a numbered cup of paint and paint a section of a mural. Groups of teens stop for a selfie--or three. Local musicians are performing nearby. Food trucks, booths representing local businesses, face painters, and more performers are at the trail access points along the way.  The following year, new designs are curated, selected and created in not one, but FIVE tunnels, attracting out-of-town guests and business to our community.

Our Goals:

  • Add fun, colorful, collaboratively created murals to the Cedar to Green Rivers Trail;
  • Encourage use of the trail that runs through Maple Valley;
  • Showcase local arts organizations and businesses in Maple Valley;
  • Highlight collaboration in the community; and
  • Bring the community together via public art.
