Tunnel Mural Update

4/26/2019

Great news…Things are starting to come together!!! King County Parks & Recreation will be pressure washing and painting the base coat on the tunnel under Witte and 169 this week. However, we're still waiting to hear when they’ll be able to install the lights in this one tunnel. One scenario is to paint the mural using jump chords and portable shop lights. The other is to wait for lights to be installed. Either way, WE NEED DONATIONS & SPONSORS!

Please consider reaching out to your social media friends and groups and ask them to donate to the Maple Valley Creative Arts Council. You can even set up your own fundraiser!  If you know business owners, set up a coffee date and feel free to invite Project Lead/MVCAC ED Brenda Chrystie to come and talk about the project and ask for support. But don’t let that stop you if you want to jump in and ask them to sponsor this project!

Also, Brenda is more than willing to meet with you to talk about this first mural as well as future plans. You can find her at the Maple Valley Creative Arts Council’s Arts Center (behind Stockton’s, next to Dace’s Rock ‘N More) on Fridays from noon to 4:00 PM. Otherwise send an email!

PBT is still in its quiet phase of fundraising but that'll soon change!
This coming Monday (3/11) the PBT Planning Committee will be presenting not only the plan for this year's mural, but our vision for PBT as an annual community event. On 3/20, we'll be presenting PBT to the community at the Maple Valley Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce luncheon.

Getting Ready

All of us working on Paint By Tunnels continue to make progress on growing interest for our Big Glorious Idea. We've had lots of meetings recently and continue to be amazed by the outpouring of support.

Larry Baumgart of the Maple Valley Farmers' Market and Brent Pennington, local musician and Chair of the Maple Valley Public Arts Commission are now on the Planning Committee. Welcome Larry and Brent!

Matthew Gregg of Norfwespro is helping us create a promotional video and is incredible to work with! We spent yesterday morning with him filming on the trail and we can't wait to see what he creates! (Be sure to check out his YouTube channel and Instagram account.)

Also in the works for PBT are a slideshow presentation and an informative brochure, a crowd-funding page, a few grant proposals for 2020 project funds, and more meetings.

In the meantime, SAVE THE DATE: Maple Valley Creative Arts Council will be presenting PBT at the March 20th Maple Valley Black Diamond Chamber Luncheon. Join us! Learn more about what we're up to and maybe get a free t-shirt.

It looks like we'll be painting a mural next year!

With support from the City of Maple Valley's City Manager Laura Philpott, King County Department of Parks & Recreation has approved our mural proposal for
the tunnel on the Cedar/Green River Trail in Maple Valley under Witte Road just east of Maple Valley Black Diamond Highway!

The timing for this project is yet to be determined, so be sure to sign up to receive our future eNewsletters and announcements.
